Celebrity Signings - John Carpenter

May 1, 2010. I met one of my all time favorite movie directors- John Carpenter. He is perhaps most famous for directing the original Halloween (1978) but I am a huge fan of The Thing from 1982 and They Live from 1988. I met him at The Texas Frightmare Weekend in Dallas and I think it was his first convention appearance. He was very cool and signed this artist print of the monster from The Thing and even wrote the most remembered line from the film "You gotta be fucking kidding!"

This is an original 8x10 still from The Thing that was printed in 1982 to hang in the lobby of a movie theater. I purchased this still and several others over a month before meeting John Carpenter. I knew that if he signed in black across the white ice, the contrast would be great. I also asked him to write the tagline from the film.

I once bought an autographed sketch of a Halloween Jack-O-Lantern by John Carpenter. Please read the article I wrote about collecting celebrity sketches and artwork. When I met him, I couldn't resist asking for a spider head sketch from The Thing

Another nice original 8x10 from The Thing. John Carpenter signed in the dark area with silver marker and he wrote another great movie line. The conventions only had portraits of John Carpenter to sign so I am glad that I planned ahead and brought these for his autograph.
